Calonge, Costa Brava and surroundings
Beach lovers can indulge themselves at the beautiful beach of Calonge, with a stunning boulevard that continues to the charming fishing village of Palamós, or via a lovely coastal walking route to the always lively Platja d’Aro.
Be sure to visit the stunning coves this coastline has to offer, such as Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, Aiguablava or Sa Tuna. They are all within a 15-30 minute drive.
Beach, coves and markets
Beach lovers can indulge themselves at the beautiful beach of Calonge, just a ten-minute drive away. The stunning boulevard continues to the charming fishing village of Palamós (tip: visit the market here on Tuesdays!), or you can walk the lovely coastal route to the always lively Platja d’Aro (which also has a nice market, on Fridays). Platja d’Aro is also a great choice if you fancy a night out! Also visit the stunning coves this coastline has to offer, such as Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, Aiguablava or Sa Tuna. They are all within a 15 to 30 minute drive. Our favourite cove is Cala Cap Roig, where you can snorkel in wonderful tranquillity and then join in at the local restaurant afterwards.
Les Gavarres Nature Reserve
The place to be for cycling enthusiasts or keen mountain bikers is just around the corner. On Strava and Komoot you’ll find plenty of beautiful and challenging routes through this nature reserve. But if you love hiking too, Les Gavarres is the place for you. In the area you’ll find several hidden gems, such as Castell de Palagret, Castell de Sant Miquel or Sant Mateu de Montnegre.
Girona (35 minutes by car)
With its historic centre, Girona — or Gerona, as the Spanish say — is a beautiful city with a cosy character. Wander for hours through the old streets or enjoy the Spanish sun on a terrace, on one of the many squares Girona has to offer. It’s also a great city for shopping lovers, with large chain stores and small unique shops. Did you know the famous series Game of Thrones was filmed in Girona? Take a guided walk past the film locations or visit a Game of Thrones wine tasting! More info: geronavoorbeginners.nl
Soaking up culture in Barcelona
In Spain’s second-largest city, you won’t have a dull moment. Here you’ll find the famous Sagrada Família, Park Güell and many other sights. Tip: hop on a bus turístic, or rent a bike, electric scooter or kick scooter. That way you’ll see a lot of the city in a short time. If you want to visit somewhere like Park Güell or the Camp Nou Experience, the museum and stadium of FC Barcelona, be sure to book your tickets in advance.
Muziek & foodtrucks bij kasteel Calonge
Immerse yourself in the Spanish atmosphere! In summer, enjoy lively (music) festivities at the castle in the old centre of Calonge, and if you’re lucky you’ll also find food trucks serving the tastiest local delicacies there.

Wijn proeven bij Mas Molla
Mas Molla is located in the Conca del Tinar, a Mediterranean valley near Calonge, in the heart of the Costa Brava. Since 1338, this is where you’ll find the vineyards and fruit trees of the Molla family. Many generations later, delicious wines and dried fruit are still produced here. From June to August, you can book a tour with wine tasting in English on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cheers!

Aquadiver Water Park in Platja d'Aro
A guaranteed fun day out for the kids! This nice and easy-to-navigate water park is just a 10-minute drive away. Do keep in mind that it’s a bit pricier during high season, but a ‘fast pass’ is worth buying — you’ll spend a lot less time queueing!

El Golfo: restaurant and mini-golf
Another great tip for families: this restaurant with a mini-golf course in Platja d’Aro. Relax with a drink yourself while the kids burn off their energy. This restaurant belongs to a Spanish friend of ours, so we can assure you we’ve tested it thoroughly….

The medieval villages of Peratallada, Pals and Begur
Peratallada is one of the best-preserved medieval villages in all of Spain, entirely built on rock. In the centre you’ll find narrow streets, gates and bridges. Bougainvillea, climbing roses and other flowers add extra colour to Peratallada in summer. Let yourself be surprised in one of the many restaurants!
Pals is also one of those typically charming Spanish villages with a beautiful historic centre. Through the streets, you walk to the viewpoint Mírador Josep Pla, where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the lower-lying parts of Pals, the sandy beaches and the Medes Islands.
In the picturesque village of Begur, on a 200-metre-high hill, you’ll find several cosy little bars, restaurants and hotels. From the centre, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to Castell de Begur: the medieval castle ruins. Here too, you’ll enjoy a fantastic view.
